Gut Health, IBS and Reflux Nutritionist

A personalised, integrated approach to IBS, bloating, reflux and digestive symptoms, including nutrition, supplements and nervous system support

Gut Health Nutritionist: Integrated Support for IBS, Bloating and Reflux

If you're living with ongoing gut symptoms, you'll know how much they can take over. Bloating that changes your plans, reflux that wakes you at night, or a list of foods that keeps getting shorter, often after being told your tests are normal.

I'm Keris Marsden, a BANT registered nutritional therapist with 18 years of clinical experience, and gut health is personal for me. I was diagnosed with IBS at 22, and over the years I was also diagnosed with reflux, silent reflux (LPR), chronic gastritis and SIBO, before eventually discovering MCAS was a big part of the picture.

I tried most of what's out there, conventional and alternative. What finally helped was looking at the whole system: what I was eating, how I was eating, my stress levels, my nervous system and the triggers underneath it all.

I now work online with clients across the UK and internationally, helping them make sense of their symptoms and find a way forward that fits their life.

Common gut issues I support

Digestive symptoms rarely have a single cause. Stress, hormones, infections, medications, food intolerances and changes in the gut microbiome can all play a part.

I regularly help clients with:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • Bloating and excess wind

  • Acid reflux, heartburn and silent reflux (LPR)

  • Gastritis and indigestion

  • Constipation, loose stools or a mix of both

  • SIBO and gut imbalances

  • Food intolerances and sensitivities

  • Histamine intolerance and MCAS related gut symptoms

  • Gut symptoms that worsen around perimenopause and menopause

The gut, stress and your nervous system

Your gut and brain are in constant conversation. When you're stressed, rushed or running on empty, digestion is one of the first things to suffer. This is why so many people notice their symptoms flare during busy or difficult periods, and why restrictive diets alone rarely fix things for good.

Hormonal changes can also affect digestion. Many of the women I work with notice new bloating, reflux or food reactions in their late thirties and forties. Looking at the whole picture means we can work out what's really driving your symptoms rather than chasing them one by one.

How nutritional therapy can help your gut

There's no one-size-fits-all gut diet. My approach is personalised and evidence-informed, and focuses on:

  • How you eat, as well as what you eat: meal timing, chewing and eating in a calmer state

  • Blood sugar balance and regular, nourishing meals

  • Identifying trigger foods carefully, without cutting out more than you need to

  • Structured elimination and reintroduction trials when they're genuinely useful

  • Supporting stomach acid, digestive enzymes and bowel regularity

  • Targeted supplements, chosen for your symptoms rather than added in bulk

  • Guidance on which tests are worth doing, and liaising with your GP

  • Nervous system support to calm the gut and brain connection

My Approach To Gut Health

My approach is built on lived experience and 18 years in clinic. I know how frustrating it is to be told everything looks fine when you don't feel fine.

Foundations first: before tests or long supplement lists, we look at the basics: regular meals, blood sugar balance, minimally processed food with room for the foods you enjoy, alcohol kept moderate, and how you eat as well as what you eat. Only then do we consider trials such as 30 days gluten and dairy free.

Working with your medical team: persistent gut symptoms always deserve proper medical checks. I'll help you understand which investigations to ask your GP about and work alongside any treatment from your GP or gastroenterologist.

Calming the system: I use simple nervous system tools such as breathing practices, body scans and grounding, because a gut that feels safe digests better.
